Round and Round – Traffic Circles in Las Vegas
Some call them traffic circles, others call them roundabouts but one thing is for sure if you live in Las Vegas, they are here to stay.
Roundabouts are one of the most efficient ways to move traffic around in our city and have become an essential part of Las Vegas’s infrastructure.
Las Vegas roundabouts can be found all over the city, mostly around intersections, but some are placed in the middle of highways. When designed correctly, they allow for a smooth flow of traffic, reduced congestion, and improved safety for pedestrians. They also help conserve fuel and reduce air pollution.
These roundabouts are easy to recognize due to their unique design. Most of them have a large circle in the middle with four arms extending outward which form the entry/exit points. Many of them also feature decorative elements such as statues, plants, or water features.
However, Las Vegas has recently added three roundabouts along a brief portion of Cimarron Road that falls between Sahara and Oakey Avenues… and they are causing quite a stir. Some say they look horrible, some say they are dangerous and there is no wonder… as the roundabouts push traffic completely into the bike lanes, they are not very well marked, and they look like someone in Las Vegas city planning threw this project to the lowest bidder.
