The NSC report went on to say that, “the second quarter of 2020 saw a 14% increase in traffic fatalities compared with the same period in 2019.” This is likely due to the fact that people are driving less, but when they do drive, they are driving more recklessly.
There were a total of 3,616 traffic fatalities in the first six months of 2020. This is compared to the 3,360 traffic fatalities in the first six months of 2019. That’s an increase of 9%. The second quarter of 2020 saw a 14% increase in traffic fatalities over the second quarter of 2019.
The main reason for the increase in traffic fatalities is people driving more recklessly. With less traffic on the road, people are speeding and not paying attention. This has led to an increase in accidents and fatalities.
If you are going to be driving in Las Vegas, be sure to drive safely and obey all traffic laws. With the increase in traffic fatalities, it is more important than ever to be safe on the roads.
The Ugly Side of Speeding and Reckless Driving
It’s not only COVID-19, rising inflation and gas prices, Las Vegas has a horrible speeding problem with drag street racing. The city shut down a few popular drag racing spots, but that has only moved the problem around.
Local law enforcement is struggling to keep up with the street racers. They have setup stings and increased patrols, but the racers are always one step ahead. The street racers have even been known to post the locations of their races on social media.
The street racing problem has gotten so bad that the city is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest of a street racer. If you see street racing, be sure to report it to the police.
Do not try to race the street racers, as this will only lead to more accidents and fatalities.
Impaired and Drunk Driving Accidents
Another problem in Las Vegas is impaired and drunk driving. With the increase in traffic fatalities, the number of drunk driving accidents has also increased.
In 2019, there were a total of 3,360 traffic fatalities in the United States. Of those, 1,149 were caused by drunk drivers. That’s an increase of 9% over 2018.
With the rise in traffic fatalities, it is more important than ever to drive safely in Las Vegas. Obey all traffic laws and be sure to report any street racing you see.
