Toyota Recalls Over 300,000 Vehicles due to Airbag Defect

The Breakdown on Toyota National Recall

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Toyota is initiating a nationwide recall of approximately 307,848 Toyota Highlanders, Highlander Hybrids, and RAV4s as the result of a defect in the Curtain Shield Airbag (CSA) system. The recall is to begin in May.

air bagToyota is recalling 307,848 potentially affected model year 2008 Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, and model year 2007-2008 RAV4 vehicles due to a malfunction that could cause inadvertent airbag deployment and/or seat belt pretensioner activation.

The CSA contains two sensors which detect vehicle roll angle, however one or both of these sensors can malfunction, causing the airbag warning light to turn on, the side airbag to deploy unpredictably, and/or the activation of the seat belt pretensioner.

The latter two could potentially cause injury to occupants and/or cause a motor-vehicle accident if the vehicle is in motion at the time.

Nevada residents who own the affected vehicles will be notified with instructions by Toyota when sufficient parts and solution become available.

Toyota will replace the defective airbag sensor assembly with one containing improved roll rate sensors, at no cost. When notified, Nevada owners should immediately follow Toyota’s instructions in order to prevent injuries.

It is the duty of auto manufacturers to provide consumers with safe and fully functional vehicles. However, this is not always the case. If you or a loved one has sustained an injury as the result of a defective auto product or as the result of a traffic accident caused by an auto defect, you may be entitled to compensation.

How Do Faulty Products Cause Injury?

Faulty products can cause injuries in various ways, including sudden acceleration or braking due to defective electronic throttle control systems, malfunctioning airbags that deploy too quickly or unexpectedly, and a wide range of other design or manufacturing defects. All these issues can lead to serious injury and even death.

When a product fails to comply with these standards, and a consumer is injured as a result, they may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages, property damage and other losses.

When a company fails to provide consumers with a safe product, or if the product does not perform as advertised, those injured may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturer.
